Our history

The idea for Cape Cru Amsterdam arose in October 2019 and for 3 years the organizers worked towards the first edition in 2022. This edition was well attended and the enthusiasm of visitors and winemakers quickly led to a second edition being planned for 2024.

The organisation

Cape Cru is a collaboration between four different importers who specialize in South African wines: WineMatters, Smaragd Wijnen, Benier Global Wines and Wijnkooperij de Lange. Together they organized the first Cape Cru in 2022 and 2024. After this successful edition, the next one will be held on Sunday 31 of May and Monday June 1st 2026, again attended by approximately 42 winemakers.

The Location

We are proud to also be able to hold the second edition in the monumental Zuiderkerk in Amsterdam. The Zuiderkerk is the first church in Amsterdam designed for Protestant worship. The church was built near Sint Antoniesbreestraat in the Lastage, a neighborhood that was added to the city at the end of the 16th century. Today this is the Nieuwmarktbuurt.

Vader TH. J.M.
