Lukas van Loggerenberg
van Loggerenberg Wines
The new superstar among South African winemakers. Lukas van Loggerenberg has selected a number of mainly old, well-maintained vineyards in the Western Cape to make his wines. From 60 year old Chenin Blanc vines in Paarl (Kameraderie) to high quality premium Cinsault vines in Stellenbosch (Geronimo).
Jean Smith
Damascene
Damascene is a collaboration between winemaker Jean Smit and David Curl (former owner of Château Gaby). Jean has gained experience in France with Stéphane Ogier and in South Africa with, among others, Badenhorst and Boekenhoutskloof. The first releases were made in Somerset West, but a new winery is being completed in Elgin, on David's farm.
Elizma Visser
Olifantsberg
Olifantsberg is the winery of the Dutch Paul Leeuwerik in the Breedekloof. The Breedekloof wine region is known for its simple wines, but thanks to Paul's investments and Elizma's passion and drive, the quality has increased rapidly. Very exciting, spectacular and elegant wines from Chenin Blanc (blend) and Rhône varieties are the result of all their efforts.
South-African Wines
Renowned and special wines have been made in South Africa for years. Wine growing in South Africa is mainly concentrated in the far south-west of the country, in the Western Cape province. Western Cape is the fourth largest province of South Africa's nine; with its 129,000 m² it is comparable in area to Greece, but has only 5.82 million inhabitants. Of these, 3.74 million live in Cape Town (as of 2011). It is a very varied region, both topographically and climatically, with a stretch of striking mountain ranges along the southern coastline. The west coast, and also the Karoo plateau inland, is very dry. The wine regions are almost all within a two to three hour drive from the coast and take full advantage of the predominantly Mediterranean climate, which is very favorable for grape growing.
